Theres a nifty little program that can generate a map of the minecraft world.
If its possible to access the world data, it would be interesting to see the changes to the map as building goes on.
First time the server is booted up to see it untouched and then perhaps every day or two after.
You could drop the maps onto here for everyone to see as we go... although if you were attempting to build something secretly it might hinder your plans!
Any thoughts on this?

im not up to this idea because like you said if we build anything secret everyone will know were we are and thus were more liable to pron griefing

Yes, it's true. We finally have bukkit! Your going to have to upgrade to the current minecraft. (This can be done by deleting the .bin folder) With the long awaited server upgrade, we are now installing and testing plug-ins so please be patient for the next couple of days and don't be surprised when the world resets(No not the map), as we need to reset to put the plug-ins in play.
So now that BUKKIT is installed I will be making a thread where you can see all the commands available to you.
This is a work in progress and some of it will be untested.
Mywarps plugin - installed and working.
commands:
/warp <name> - (mywarp.warp.basic.warp) - Warps to <name>
/warp create <name> - (mywarp.warp.basic.create) - Create a new warp at your current position
