| On Wednesday morning, as I'm sure most of you already know, the Bukkit team had a meeting with Mojang Specifications regarding their popular game, Minecraft. Going into the meeting, we were hoping to tackle the licensing issue right out of the door. Unfortunately, due to some people being unable to make it, it turned out to be a different type of meeting than we had intended.
With only the developers of Minecraft able to attend, the meeting quickly turned into a technical discussion about what ideas we all had for Minecraft, how modding should work and so on. As we learned a lot from this meeting, we felt we should share some of the points with you. However, please understand that absolutely nothing said in the meeting is set in stone or final and can change at any time.
So, here's what we learned:
•Modding support will likely start as server-side only at first, then later is hoping to expand to the client-side •Single player is most likely going to be changed to run through a local server (this is also to enable modding) •They are hoping to make texture modification easier, without having to modify the client •They like what we're doing but need to provide us with a better alternative to the way we're doing it Some ideas they're considering:
•Generic gui support •Server -> client communication to allow popping up an interface, etc •Being able to tell clients to follow different rules, like physics •Giving modders the ability to (make signs) show text While we did not have time to address our licensing issues, we believe we can honestly say that this meeting was just the beginning of a long-term relationship with Mojang Specifications. Nonetheless, we're hoping to contact Mojang Specifications specifically about our licensing issues soon.
Thanks fatguy, this is a big step forward and means good things are coming down the pipeline!! |

| Unfortunatly, they once again failed to give us any sort of timeline for a possible release.

| I can see everyone is still stressed about Bukkit...I wouldn't woory about it, the only people that should are people that can't downgrade. Besides for those unfortunate people, the server is up and i'm sure Bukkit won't be around for a while. Even when it does come out, there is all of that configuring that needs to be done to the plugins which now take different files then the old ones for hey0. I don't even think Cuboid is out for it yet, but i do know there are people who took some functions and put together a Cuboid similar plugin.
I'm waiting for it too, but i'm glad we can downgrade.(sorry iCAM) |

| What I'm most worried about is, like you said, the delay that will take place between when bukkit it finally out and when plugin develpoers port their plugins to bukkit. At this point I have more faith in Notch's update that allows official downgrading than I do in bukkit.

| It seems as if Notch is trying to keep away from Bukkit. Official downgrading would take Bukkit out of the equation completely, as everyone will stay with hey0 because they are used to it. If i were the owner of a server like this one, i wouldn't waste my time on upgrading. |

| I think that at their meeting, they came to the conclusion that because bukkit isn't willing to update hMod while we wait for bukkit so Notch is kinda helping them out by providing a way to downgrade between updates. He's helping them out. If he really wanted to screw them over, he would simply have small pointless updates every week so there would never be a time where bukkit would be up to date.

| True. if we knew exactly why he is not allowing them to release as of right now it would make a lot more sense. Notch clearly has a lot of work to do between now and Minecraft's official release. Lucky for aplha buyers, you get it free and since i bought it like a week after beta was released, i'm out of luck, because i'm broke. |

| I think that bukkit isn't done anyways. I'm pretty sure the issues with Notch are only a few of the things they need to do before it's available to us. Also, with a beta account you get the final release free. Just nothing beyond that.

| Yeah, Bukkit may claim that they have the plugin ready to be released but i guarentee they don't. And thank you for clearing that up. You have just made my day. |

Bukkit is the future and hey0 mod is the past. To think otherwise is just plain foolish. I may even be so bold as to say that Bukkit will eventually be incorporated into Minecraft. This process will not be as painful as some of you are thinking it is simply a matter of playing the waiting game. Do not worry your fragile little minds over such things the admin team and myself have it thoroughly under control. happy happy joy joy, last_305 |

| I totally agree that bukkit is the future and I think Notch would be an idiot if he didn't work with them in certain ways but you obviously know that we are impatient with them... (with good reason)
